Inside the burning house

I work as a photographer in a local newspaper Hammerfestingen in northernmost town in the world – Hammerfest, Norway. Two weeks ago camping place on Storsvingen was on fire, so everyone rushed in that direction. Fire brigade was already there. This was actual them, who started the fire in the first place, because it was just a training (camping buildings are going to be demolished to make a room for new flats). The next day we were invited to actually go into the burning buildings together with firefighters. Taking pictures with fire over your head, mask covering your face, water dripping from ceiling and in thick black smoke is quiet a challenge. This is what came out of it.

Takk for Hammerfest Brannvesen for muligheten!

Camera used: Canon 5D Mark II, 16-35 mm f2.8 for inside the house pictures. 16-35mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4 and 24-105mm f4.0 for pictures taken from outside.

Finnmark and Finland

Pictures I found in my camera after coming back home from Finland and some small trips around Hammerfest.

Northern lights (aurora borealis) 2

Four days ago something exploded on the Sun (biggest activity since 2005), sending billions of electrically charged particles towards our planet. I had a privilege to meet them entering our atmosphere.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Peaceful

If this would be making sounds – what would it sound like?

Northern Lights. That’s all.

P.S. Yes, they are far from perfect in terms of clarity, sharpness, noise etc. But I still think this is cool enough to share.

This is a view I had everyday whilst driving to work in Alesund, if it wasn’t raining. And if you check weather forecast, it rains almost non-stop.
This is called Trollveggen. Fun starts when a caravan with retired germans meets a bus and one of them must back up to give a way on a turn.
Part of Jostedalsbreen, also in More og Romsdal, Norway. This is where vikings used to go, when they were out of ice for drinks.
Finnmark, Norway. You come here, when you want to be alone.
This is Godoya, More og Romsdal. And it’s epic.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Wonder

Storm over Godøya (Gods island), Møre og Romsdal, Norway.

Hammerfest, Finnmark, Norge

I just realized, that if this is how a road to your new home look like…

… you either made something terribly wrong or damn right with your life.

So, basicaly, now we live in a northernmost city IN THE WORLD.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Opportunity

This was captured in Møre og Romsdal, Norway, little south from Jostedalsbreen (Jostedal Glacier), the largest glacier in continental Europe.

Since this is posted as a part of Weekly Photo Challenge “Opportunity”, this is my favorite quote in this subject: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” (Thomas Alva Edison).

Have a great day!
